Meeting Rooms and Reception Areas

Why not hold your next meeting, wedding ceremony, wedding reception or seminar in the unique surroundings of the Maritime Museum of BC. Here you will find meeting rooms and reception areas to accommodate both small and mid-size gatherings. The Maritime Museum of BC is conveniently located in the heart of the City of Victoria making it an easy venue to get to from anywhere in the downtown core.

Victorian Courtroom

The Victorian Courtroom can be used for a number of gatherings. Meetings, seminars, intimate wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions all work well in this multifaceted room. It is also well suited for delivering education and teaching programs. Restored in 1889 by Francis Rattenbury, one of Victoria’s famous architects, this courtroom can comfortably seat up to 80 people.

Boardroom

The Boardroom can be rented in conjunction with the adjacent Courtroom or by itself when a smaller space is required. This room layout is ideal for meetings as well as a wedding reception. There are two private office spaces located off the Boardroom. When rented with the Courtroom for a wedding ceremony and wedding reception, this office space can easily serve as the bridal prep area with the main Boardroom as the food station.

Mezzanine

The Special Exhibits Room is located on the first floor and is composed of two spacious connected rooms. It provides a venue for larger meetings, seminars, mixers and wedding receptions. The greater carpeted area contains a pull-down projector screen and we do provide a projector rental service. With large windows looking out onto Bastion Square, the Special Exhibits Room is a versatile area that can be made to fit a variety of needs.

First Floor Gallery

A great fit for wedding receptions, parties and mixers, the First Floor Gallery will allow guests to browse some of the exhibits while enjoying your event. The dramatic “Crows Nest” serves as a natural speakers’ platform and several of the exhibit cases may be moved to create more open space for mingling. Please note that the Gallery is only available after Museum operating hours.

Whole Museum

For a truly memorable experience, the entire three floors of the Museum can be rented after regular operating hours. Up to three hundred guests can wander at leisure through our world class exhibits, perhaps guided by a bold pirate or Captain Cook. They can ride from floor to floor in the oldest operating birdcage elevator (from the original Hotel Vancouver) in North America and explore the collections of maritime art, historic memorabilia, naval and nautical artifacts and exquisite model ships. Docents can be on hand to accompany your guests, give them informal tours and answer any questions about the displays.
