Classic Boat Magazine and the Classic Boat Awards

Dorothy faces fierce competition in her category of Restored Sailing Vessel under 40ft (12.2m), but her deep connections to Victoria, her inspiring story of a decade of refits to keep sailing after 127 years, and her beautiful design and workmanship make it clear that she is a strong contender. Especially, if you vote.

SV Dorothy’s extensive refit is featured in the February 2024 article “Canada’s Daughter” by Jan Hein in Classic Boat Magazine.

About Dorothy

Dorothy is the oldest BC-built, registered sailboat, still sailing. Her first owner from 1897 to 1944, the young barrister W.H. Langley, had her designed by Linton Hope, built in J.J. Robinson’s Inner Harbour boatyard at Laurel Point and then raced her at every opportunity to win an impressive share of silver. With extensive refits completed over a decade by artist and shipwright Tony Grove and the volunteer team at Ladysmith Maritime Society led by historian and boatwright Robert Lawson, she is sailing these coastal waters once more. Her next opportunity beckons.
