SV Dorothy Public Launch

The Maritime Museum of BC and the Ladysmith Maritime Society are delighted to announce that SV Dorothy is returning to the water on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Fisherman’s Wharf boat ramp (837 Ludlow Road, Ladysmith Harbour). The public launch will be at 1:00 PM; join us and celebrate this wonderful occasion. Volunteers at the Ladysmith Maritime Society have been hard at work to finish refitting Dorothy since June 2022, when she moved from shipwright and artist Tony Grove’s workshop to Ladysmith after years of work funded by private donors keen to see her back in the water. Built in 1897 in James Bay by John J. Robinson, this public launch will almost 127 years after her initial launch on July 26, 1897. She is part of the fleet in the Maritime Museum of BC Collection, but will remain on exhibit among the fleet at the Ladysmith Community Marina, 611 Oyster Bay Drive, Ladysmith BC until returning home to Victoria at a later date.
